J_Stanford02Jim Stanford
Owner
PADI IDC Staff Instructor
EFR Instructor

Jim Stanford is the owner of a very successful business, Gray’s Construction. He brings with him to Atlantis Outfitters not only an incredible enthusiasm for diving, but the business skills and drive that have allowed him to build Gray’s into a major entity in the commercial construction industry. Jim was certified as a diver in 2000. He immediately fell in love with diving and began diving as often as possible. Our local quarries received regular visits from Jim and our dive store and dive club became part of his regular hangouts. He got his kids involved in diving and his water-ski, tubing, boating trip to Summersville, WV soon added diving to its agenda. Then he decided he needed a bigger boat so the scuba gear would fit better. Now that’s a guy who loves diving!
Jim’s fascination with the underwater world led him to continue his diving education and he earned his PADI Divemaster in 2003. He continued on to Assistant Instructor and completed his PADI Instructor training in 2005. Jim has been on D & M’s staff since he became a PADI Divemaster. He has continued his training and diving experience, adding ERF and other courses to his qualifications. He loves to dive and to hear and share diving stories. His adventures have taken him to the Spiegel Grove in the Keys, down under to Australia, and even down under the ice in Ohio.

Karen holds an Advanced certification from PADI and enjoys scuba diving in the Florida Keys (especially Ginnie Springs!). Karen is the General Manager for Atlantis Outfitters and is responsible for overseeing all operations.
Her other hobbies include chinchilla breading; birds, scrap booking and flute playing – although I don’t have a lot of extra time to enjoy these other hobbies due to the recent purchase of the store.
Her and Dave have been married since 1993 and do not have any children (other than the 6 chinchillas, 2 birds and 1 dog)!

Consultant & PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer

Mark02Mark Gilbert
Consultant & PADI Master Instructor

Mark began his diving career in 1977 when he received his Openwater Diver certification. The diving bug bit him big time and he began to dive anywhere and anytime he could. In 1981 he earned his PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Instructor certification. After a few years of teaching scuba classes evenings and weekends, he and Dick opened D & M Sport Diving, Inc. and began making scuba a full time job.
Mark has certified over 800 divers in a number of different scuba courses over the years. He has been an assistant and instructor in scuba courses at Mount Union College since1978. Being able to teach a wide range of courses from beginners to wreck diving, underwater photography and yes, even ice diving, keeps variety and excitement in his teaching experiences.
The diving experiences Mark has had range from freshwater lakes, rivers, and old rock quarries to a number of Caribbean islands, Hawaii and even the South Pacific. Mark says, “ The wonder and diversity of life found in the underwater environment surpasses anything that is found on land. The almost infinite variety of color, shape and size in the fish, and the underwater creatures; means that a diver can spend years diving and still be amazed by the sight of a creature they have never seen. I’ve seen multitudes of fish, lobster (1 giant one – no, really!) octopus, eels, barracuda, dolphins and yes-even sharks. I’ve had the opportunity to explore shipwrecks as old as 1868 in the Great Lakes and also Truk Lagoon, where American forces sank a large fleet of Japanese supply ships. After 27 years, I still look forward to every dive knowing there is always something new to see under the horizon.”
